LingaPHILKOFA: Tara Bangon Project – Dec 7, 2020

To bring hope, spread love and radiate positivity, the Philippine KOICA Fellows Association (PHILKOFA) implemented LingaPHILKOFA: Tara Bangon Project in three different areas in the country from December 2020 to January 2021.

PHILKOFA, in its continuing commitment to deliver services for the benefit of various stakeholders, conducted fundraising campaign to support the project. The collections incurred to Php. 237,542.55 which benefited the two Local Government Units (LGU) – Bato, Catanduanes and Solana, Cagayan, and Bagong Silang Elementary School, Los Baños, Laguna.

The province of Catanduanes was severely affected by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly which caused massive destructions to people’s lives, properties and livelihoods, among others in November 2020. This prompted PHILKOFA to implement project in the province on December 07, 2020 to alleviate suffering of typhoon victims. A total of 69 households in Brgy. Talisay, Bato, Catanduanes, received 5 galvanized iron (GI) sheets and ¾ kilos of umbrella nails while the Barangay Chapel received 40 GI sheets to support reconstruction of the chapel. PHILKOFA members, Mr. Vincent Lobete from Philippine Ports Authority, Bicol and Mr. Arcangel Rodriguez from TESDA Sorsogon spearheaded the relief operation in partnership with the LGU Bato, Catanduanes, Catanduanes Lodge 291 and Coast Guard Catanduanes.

The passage of Typhoon Ullyses in the same month likewise inflicted enormous damages in Luzon particularly in Northern Luzon leaving extensive damages to agriculture and many people homeless due to severe flooding. Through the project, PHILKOFA, represented by Engr. Paulina Lingan from DENR Cagayan, in partnership with the Barangay Solana Northeast, Solana, Cagayan, Solana North Central School teaching staff and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO), Cagayan, conducted relief operations on January 04, 2021. A total of 150 school children represented by their parents from Solana North Central School and nearby Barangays in Cagayan River, Cento Northeast, Sitio Maragui and Basi East Solana received brand new clothing, slippers and chocolates.

On the other hand, the project provided basic educational needs of young children in a far flung area of Bagong Silang Elementary School in Los Baños Laguna. The activity was spearheaded by PHILKOFA, in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korea Chamber of Commerce Philippines (KCCP). PHILKOFA distributed to a total of 135 students, represented by their parents and teachers, set of school supplies, vitamins, chocolates, face masks, and face shield among others on December 19, 2020. Apart from it, KOICA also gave set of school supplies, computer set and printers and other customized gift items to the students, teachers and the school. Moreover, the Korea Chamber of Commerce Philippines (KCCP) donated PhP60,000.00 worth of hygiene kits distributed during the activity. The outreach was personally attended by PHILKOFA President Gina Borinaga and Board Members Mr. Joey Benavidez, Mr. Christian Kevin Latiza, and Mr. Lorenzo A. Moron, KOICA Country Director Song Minyeon and staffs and KCCP, represented by Ms. Chi Carreon.

The project manifests PHILKOFA’s relentless efforts in extending support and valuable assistance to various individuals and communities that need urgent attention.
