The Annual Planning for CY-2021 convened despite the ongoing pandemic. – January 24, 2021

 

The 2021 Annual Planning was held at the new office of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Philippines in BGC, Taguig City and through an online meet via Zoom last January 24, 2021. In this event were the 11 Board of Trustees, KOICA Assistant Country Director Misun Choi, and Program Officers Andrea Conopio and Leny Amparo. This was the first Annual Planning that was held online due to the pandemic.

 

Philkofa President Gina Borinaga expressed her gratefulness for the commitment of the Board of Trustees and encouraged them to continue their servitude. She had also enumerated the organization’s major accomplishments in 2020 which are the LingaPhilkofa Kontra Covid 19, a nationwide project of giving aid and assistance to the medical front liners, hospitals, communities, and students greatly affected by Covid; the LingaPhilkofa Balik Eskwela project in which nine K to 12 students received computers while four schools received printers and ink; the webinar on Knowledge Sharing Programs on Rural, Urban and Economic Development with Koica scholars, sharing their skills and expertise gained in Korea; and the first virtual Celebration of the 19th Founding Anniversary of the association.

 

Meanwhile, another commendable project which the chairperson Lorenzo Moron reported was the successful conduct of the LingaPhilkofa Tara Bangon Project – a fundraising Project which began in November and was implemented in December 2020. The LingaPhilkofa Tara Bangon Project in Bicol provided roofs to a community affected by the typhoon; Tara Bangon in Cagayan distributed clothes and gifts to children for Christmas; Tara Bangon in Laguna distributed school supplies and school materials to a remote school in collaboration with Koica and Korean Chamber Commerce of the Philippines.

 

On the other hand, Assistant Country Director Misun Choi confirmed and assured PhilKOFAof its continuous support and assistance for this year. She encouraged the group to fulfill the goals while commending the dedication and commitment of Philkofa to make a difference despite the Pandemic. In addition to that, KOICA presented guidelines and directions for CY-2020 in correspondence with the pandemic situation in the country.

 

The Annual Planning is held every first quarter to create and plan the association’s projects and activities. The Board of Trustees is required to prepare the Work and Financial Plan for the year, taking into consideration KOICAs direction and goals along with PhilKOFAs objectives this year. Those of which are the following:

  • To share knowledge and capacitate members of PhilKOFA and partners such as national government agencies, local government units, and other government entities, civil society organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders.
  • To conduct innovative programs that are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Philippine Development Plan (AmBisyon Natin 2040).
  • To strengthen the membership and the Regional Coordination Mechanism to ensure the involvement of members in all PhilKOFA and KOICA activities through the dissemination of information and promotion of programs and activities through online channels and publication of newsletters.
  • To undertake COVID-19 response activities that include among others awareness training, livelihood assistance, and donation of essential items relative to the campaign to prevent COVID-19 and collaborate with other agencies such as LGUs, CSOs, and NGOs.
  • To conduct and participate Philippine-Korean cultural exchange activities to enhance mutual and friendly relations and partnership ties between the two countries.

 

Overall, activities designed during the whole day Planning will mostly center on Covid livelihood and pandemic response as well as the Knowledge Sharing Programs to be conducted online. Now in its 20th year, Philkofa is steadfast in its commitment to continuously serve and conduct programs that are aligned to the vision and mission of the association.
