The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Philippine KOICA Fellows Association (PhilKOFA) Inc. held its 11th General Membership Meeting (GMM) at Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati City last December 8, 2012. Almost ninety members and guests united in this season of Christmas to bolster camaraderie, elect the 2013 officers of the Board of Trustees, and acknowledge awardees of the recently conducted First Asian Regional Conference of the KOICA Clubs.
In the presence of active fellows, guests and KOICA officials and staff, the meeting was made more productive with the signings of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), PhilKOFA, and KOICA, and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between KOICA, Join Together Society (JTS) Philippines and PhilKOFA. The signing of the MOA and MOU marked the first collaboration of KOICA with its supported agencies and NGOs that carry out partnership programs for the promotion of the KOICA Korea Overseas Volunteer Program in the Philippines.
In his keynote address, Minister MIN Kyong-ho of the Korean Embassy acknowledged PhilKOFA’s initiatives in conducting development cooperation projects of KOICA, particularly in creating synergy among KOICA scholars here and abroad as well as sustaining the Philippine – Korea friendly relations.
Resident Representative KIM Jinoh of KOICA emphasized that while PhilKOFA holds much responsibility and requires commitment and dedication from its members, the lasting bond that it forms between the two countries makes it all the more meaningful. “This marks another chapter in the relationship of the Philippine and Korean government, particularly towards development cooperation. I believe that our shared vision on Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow will become a reality,” he stated.
